Fourteen children from the St Helens Sailing Squadron will compete in the Royal Brighton Yacht Club’s Stonehaven Cup.
The Melbourne-based race takes place in January, with competitors sailing over eight days in 12-foot cadet dinghys.
“The kids have been training for since August, and we’ve completed 12 to 20 training sessions,” club commodore Glenn Stewart said.
“We look forward to being competitive in Melbourne.”
The East Coast club was founded in January 2017 and provides children with an opportunity to learn valuable life skills, according to Mr Stewart.
“Sailing teaches self-reliance and teamwork, promotes good health and it’s a sport you can be competitive in for the rest of your life.”
