On Saturday, Jeremy Kode officially launched online businesses St Urban Wines and wholesaler St Armand Wine Merchants.
The idea – to bridge the local online market gap for wine sales and distribution.
The owner of Launceston’s Geronimo Aperitivo Bar and Restaurant, on Saturday Mr Kode hosted the first of many free wine tastings events, bringing winemakers and wine drinkers together
Mr Kode said his goal was to engage with customers on a face-to-face level, creating a “real wine experience”.
"That is really unique from a business point of view,” he said.
"It is not so much a picture on a website or a bottle in a store.
"This experience is so much more than that."
The restaurant is planning to host free wine tastings every month, offering all wines available through St Urban and matched with food prepared by Geronimo chefs.
Mr Kode said he also plans to bring in as many of the winemakers as possible, allowing customers to engage with the process behind the final product.
"It is a really exciting place for us to be in at the moment and we are really looking forward to seeing how people are engaging with it,” he said.
"We want to take it and make it into a national business.
"There are other places you can buy these wines, but they are not necessarily set up in the same forum.”
