Both not only won their gifts but also went head-to-head in the open 300 metres.
Returning from a foot injury, Jones added to her 2015 gift win by storming home over 120m from a 7m handicap to beat Kysha Hill (7.25m) and another former winner Laura Downie (6.75m).
McCrae thwarted Pat Chilvers’ attempt to complete a gift hat-trick by winning off 9.5m. Chilvers, whose two previous wins were over the longer distance of 200m, had to settle for second off 6.5m and Mark Nichols, who had earlier won the 70m, was third off 12.25m.
A thrilling 300m event saw McCrae as the only male in the final field of eight, beginning off 23m with Jones his closest company off 50m.
However, the backmarkers overtook all their rivals to be the first two over the line although Jones held her advantage to take the win.
Ben McShane won the 1000m off 95m from Lachlan Bonney and Sandy Loring.
