Fire services have contained the fire at Pedro’s fish ‘n’ chip shop at Ulverstone, with an estimated $300,000 worth of damage.
Up to $50,000 worth of frozen fish is also at risk of spoiling if a suitable replacement freezer cannot be found.
It is believed the fire broke out in the takeaway shops kitchen around 4pm.
There were three staff in the building at the time who all evacuated safely.
Fire crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the adjoining restaurant.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
