Held again at the Launceston Silverdome, doors open at 9am for kids aged 0-12 and their families to come along for the biggest, most interactive and engaging event for kids in Northern Tasmania.
This event is not about jumping castles and face painting – this is the chance for kids to give activities a try and get involved by bringing all the activity providers together under the one roof and providing the ultimate opportunity for kids to try a wide range of physically and mentally stimulating activities they didn’t know existed or never thought possible.
The venue will be organised into various zones that kids can move between. In the Performance Zone there will be singing, dancing, music, and drama; in the Active Zone kids can kick a soccer ball and shoot a netball; in the Craft Zone kids can test their artistic ability on a huge art wall; and more
With 70 activities on offer this year, there is no chance of being bored.
Organiser Sam Denmead said herself and fellow Kid I Am organiser Shelia Tivan have been overwhelmed with the response to the event.
“We expected 4000 through the doors last year and ended up with 6000, so we were stoked at the response,” she said.
“The event was so well received by kids, parents and the stall-holders.
“It gives kids the opportunity to try a multitude of activities and parents can talk to the providers and see what their kids are engaged with.
“I think the key is as parents ourselves we want the kids to be engaged and inspired and learning as they go, whether that is through sport, dancing or music.”
Since last year's event Kid, I Am has made some special guest appearances as pop-ups at events across Northern Tasmania with Sam and Sheila hoping to further grow the business.
“It is really exciting to be able to say we are the go-to people for providing kids activities, ” Sam said.
“We have more exciting pop-ups planned for throughout the year, it has really taken on a life of its own and we are looking forward to seeing where it takes us.”
This years event will see the addition of softball and futsal to the Active Zone and Glen Dhu Children services will the promoting their sustainability program in the Care Zone with experiences for kids that are made from natural recycled for imaginative play and exploration.
Also in the Care Zone, a chance for the parents to relax in some comfy recliners – strictly for weary parents only.
In the Healthy Eating Zone major sponsor, Bellamy’s Organic will be using the Kids In The Kitchen stage for cooking demonstrations. They’ll be running a competition to find some kids who are keen to get up and participate in some hands-on cooking preparation fun on stage.
Last years popular Trees Adventure zipline is back again, but with twice the chance to have fun – with two ladders to the start, meaning twice as many kids get a chance to wiz across the ceiling of the Silverdome.
And in the School Zone, Ten Lives Cat Centre will be joined by the Terrapin Puppet Theatre for a fun skit they’ve created about caring correctly for cats.
Also in the school zone, but to be found outside the Silverdome on the grass is Patersonia, who will have some fun outdoor activities for kids involving a mobile mud kitchen!
There are more activities to be announced soon, so stay tuned!
