The 16th Australian Masters Games came to an end on Saturday with Tasmanians in the medals in basketball, hockey and the half marathon.

In the basketball, five Tasmanian teams finished their tournaments with gold medals.
The men’s over 30’s Silverbacks, men’s over 40’s division B Glenorchy Revellers, men’s over 45’s division 1 Charging Ocelots Originals, men’s over 55’s Faders Hobart and the women’s over 45’s Trojans all won gold medals.
The men’s over 35 division B Deloraine, men’s over 40’s Tigers of Old, women’s over 35’s Ol Fouls, the men’s over 70’s Sunnyboys and mixed Charging Ocelots Originals were all unsuccessful in their grand finals to win silver medals.
In the hockey, the North-West Coast teams were dominant with three teams win gold medals and three finishing with silver medals and one bronze for the Latrobe over 35’s at Meercroft Park.
The City Marians men’s over 35’s, City Marians women’s over 40’s and the West Devonport 40’s in the women’s over 35’s won gold medals.
The women’s over 45’s Bee Gees, men’s over 35’s Circular Head All Stars and women’s over 35’s finished with silver medals.
The highlight game of the grand finals was the women’s over 45 game between the Vic Gold Ex Rug Rats and the Bee Gees, which needed two overtimes to separate the two teams.
In the half marathon, 11 Tasmanian athletes held off their competitors to claim gold medals.
The women’s gold medalist were Sonya Rodriguez in the 30-34’s, Kylie Smith in the 35-39’s, Alanna McKay in the 45-49, Susan Moodle in the 50-54’s and Ann Horton in the 55-59’s.
The men’s Tasmanian gold medal winners were Josh Durno in the 35-39’s, Michael Meredith in the 40-44’s, Bryan Tuit in the 45-49’s, John Gaby in the 50-54’s, Greg Smith in the 55-59’s and Paul Birch 55-59’s.
