Leigh Marjory Rundle pleaded guilty in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Tuesday, explaining she “didn’t know it was illegal” to use capsicum spray.
She told Magistrate Ken Stanton she carried the spray for protection.
“It is illegal, you now know that,” Mr Stanton said.
“You’re not entitled to use it [for protection].”
Describing the offence as being on the “lower end of the scale”, Mr Stanton slapped Rundle with a $100 fine, plus $82.15 in court costs – she was also convicted of the charge.
He also ordered the capsicum spray be forfeited and destroyed.
