Tasmania Police Sergeant Oates confirmed all people in the cars have been transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Further information from accident investigators is anticipated later on Saturday night.
UPDATE 6PM:
A person has been freed from a vehicle following a two-vehicle crash on the Tasman Highway, near Runnymede.
Tasmania Police Sergeant Oates said a medivac was occurring from one of the drivers.
Diversions were anticipated to remain in place for at least another hour, Sergeant Oates said.
Accident investigators are on the scene.
No further details on the people in the cars is available at present.
EARLIER:
A person is trapped following a crash on the Tasman Highway in the state’s south.
Emergency services are on the scene and traffic diversions are in place near Runnymede.
Tasmania Police Sergeant Oates said the collision involved two vehicles and was considered serious at present.
“There is one person entrapped,” Sergeant Oates said.
He confirmed traffic was being diverted around Bust-Me-Gall Hill from Woodsdale Road to the East Coast.
“Motorists should expect delays for several hours.”
South bound traffic is being diverted from Buckland Rd, while north bound is being diverted from Woodsdale Rd.
