Entering into its fourth year, 24 food vendors lined the street for Fiesta on George, while other businesses sold their wares on the roadside.
Cityprom executive officer Steve Henty, speaking in the opening hours of the fiesta, said he was overwhelmed with the number of people already on the streets by early afternoon.
By 2pm, about 1000 people were already out on the street, and plenty more were expected later in the afternoon and evening, Mr Henty said.
George St was “chockablock” with stalls while great local entertainment was on the main stage, he said.
Planning for the event started almost from the previous Fiesta on George, but three to four months out was when planning kicked up a notch, he said.
Cityprom marketing officer Laura Wilson said it had been a great turnout for the fiesta.
She hoped people gave everything a try and explored the different areas created for the event.
As for any issues raised following last year’s event, Ms Wilson said they had been taken on board.
More food vendors were on the street and there were more areas set aside for seating, she said.
Cityprom marketing assistant Larissa Murray said the fiesta suited all ages with a kid’s avenue, live entertainment and plenty to feast on.
“It’s been a perfect day for it,” Ms Murray said.
