A group of local charities are on the hunt for volunteers for the annual Launceston City Community Christmas.
The St Vincent de Paul Society, the Launceston City Mission, Salvation Army, the Launceston Benevolent Society and Colony 47 will serve a traditional Christmas dinner to about 450 people in our community on Christmas Day at the Albert Hall.
“Last year we had the wonderful and successful community lunch and this year we hope it will be bigger and better,” Vinnie’s Hetty Binns said.
This year Vinnie’s is the lead organisation but the work is shared by all the groups.
“It was City Mission’s idea last year but rather then putting all the work onto one organisation the idea was to share it around,” Ms Binns said.
“There is a lot of work and the hall looks fantastic for the Christmas lunch but we need a lot of people.”
Although Christmas is more than two months away the groups need volunteers to register sooner rather than later so the appropriate checks can be performed.
They are also searching for people who have skills to deliver children’s activities and general helpers for serving, setting-up, cleaning and packing up.
“If chefs or people with commercial kitchen experience volunteer it helps us save quite a bit of money and makes it more affordable for us,” Ms Binns said.
To volunteer this Christmas at the lunch make contact with the St Vincent de Paul Society.
