You would be hard pressed to find any bicycles in Inveresk’s BMW showroom, but they took centre stage on Thursday night, as the venue hosted the 2017 Launceston Cycle Festival launch.

Now in its 15th year, the festival has previously attracted Tasmanian Tour de France rider RIchie Porte and four-time tour winner Chris Froome to compete in the criterion event.
Event director Rick Fontyn said a mix of crowds and course continues to bring in the big names.
“It’s arguably one of the most highly-rated criterion races in Australia now, so it has built up an amazing reputation,” he said.

“We had more than 10,000 spectators last year which helps, and the course is quite picturesque.
“Tasmania is a real traditional cycling state, and we managed to get great national coverage of the event last year.”
The 2017 Launceston Criterion course is set to again circumnavigate Launceston City Park in a clockwise direction.
The event will be held on Sunday, November 12.
