A 65-year-old Newnham man has died after being hit by a car in Launceston on Monday morning.

Ambulance Tasmania transported the man to hospital with critical injuries about 9.30am.
Tasmania Police Inspector Darren Hopkins confirmed the man died after being struck by a car while crossing York Street, near St John Street.
"We are now trying to collect some CCTV vision and hope that will give us a good idea of what happened," Inspector Hopkins said.
The man did not use the pedestrian crossing to cross the street and police believe he was not with anyone at the time of the incident,.
The driver, a man in his 70s from Newstead, was not injured in the crash.
York Street in Launceston was re-opened by police about 12pm on Monday.
