The survey was designed to study the improvements and impacts that the National Disability Insurance Scheme on the state’s family carers.
It found that 57 per cent of carer respondents found it challenging or very challenging to source relevant and appropriate services.
The survey found that 40 per cent of those carers who self-managed the NDIS plan for the person they care for found it fairly difficult, and 9 per cent couldn’t cope.
Carers Tasmania chief executive Janine Arnold said the goal of the NDIS was to improve the lives of people with disability.
“However, this survey result shows this is not necessarily having a flow on effect to carer, with many now finding their caring role more difficult,” she said.
“We cannot presume the NDIS is going to magically improve the lives of all carers and their care recipients.”
Tasmania has nearly 84,000 family or friend carers.
