For Brighton-based Whitney, Monday night’s victory was of special significance as he raced Two Bills’ grandfather, former multiple group winner Chinatown Lad.
“He’s a dog that has plenty of raw ability and is starting to find his niche,” Whitney said.
“Right from his first few trials around Hobart he was running low 26 seconds at just 17 months.”
The son of Spring Gun and China Lady, a daughter of Chinatown Lad, was well supported in the betting, sent out as the second favourite at $2.70.
Stepping brilliantly from box 4, Two Bills used the draw to hold his position along the fence and gained enough momentum to round up early leader He’s A Boomer into the first turn.
He then streaked away to score by 1-¾ lengths in 34.87.
