Low attendance numbers and the need to find a new site have caused the show society to question whether the event would continue past 2017.
A portion of the showground has been gifted to the University of Tasmania for its relocation to Inveresk, and show society president Jock Gibson told The Examiner costs of relocating the show would be too much to be worthwhile, if the community wouldn’t support the event.
City of Launceston acting general manager Mike Tidey said land ownership changes were not “a major stumbling block” for the future of the show.
““We have put several conditions in place around our support, including that the show society board make it abundantly clear to the Northern Tasmanians that public support and patronage this year is more vital than ever to secure the event for future years and to help ensure its sustainability going forward,” he said.
So if you plan on wandering through the show gates to support the event, here is a quick guide on all the finer details.
