In similar circumstances to Monday’s loss to New South Wales, the Tigers’ bowlers were put to the sword by a former wearer of the Baggy Green.
This time around it was Victorian skipper Cameron White who did the damage, with his highest List A score of 165 from 154 balls powering Victoria to 6-325 as they collected a 111-run win at the WACA Ground.
White’s knock came just two days after Nic Maddinson plundered 137 from 119 against the same bowling outfit.
White, who hit 16 fours and six sixes during his stay at the crease, got great support from Marcus Harris [75 from 66 balls] as the two put on 130 in 22.5 overs.
The Tigers had a strong performer themselves in the first half of the game, with Andrew Fekete proving to be a menace against his former state with a haul of 4-48, while Jackson Bird also impressed with 1-49 from his 10 overs.
Leg-spinner Cameron Boyce [0-85] and paceman Simon Milenko [0-77] copped the most severe punishment from the Bushrangers, while Riley Meredith picked up his first career wicket and finishing with 1-65 from his 10 overs.
In reply it was another former Australian representative in Peter Siddle who frustrated the Tigers.
Siddle’s superb spell of 3-27 from his 10 overs ensured the Tigers’ chase never really got off the ground despite the best efforts of opener Ben McDermott.
McDermott joined White in posting his highest List A score, but fell short of a century after being dismissed for 97 from 124 balls with the score at 6-178 from 37.4 overs.
He combined with skipper George Bailey [52 from 56 balls] for a 103-run stand for the third wicket. But they were the only two members of the Tigers’ top six to reach double figures in their total of 214, with Ben Dunk [one from 10] and Jordan Silk [eight from 14] out cheaply.
Chris Tremain joined Siddle in the wicket-taking column with 3-50, while White’s perfect day saw him collect the final scalp of the day as he took 1-16 from his three overs with his leg-spin.
That wicket came after earlier in the innings taking an excellent catch at second slip to dismiss Dunk.
Tasmania will attempt to get its domestic one-day tournament back on track against Western Australia on Saturday at the WACA Ground.
But that won’t be an easy task with the Warriors sitting at the top of the JLT One-Day Cup table following victories against New South Wales and Victoria to start the summer.
