The Living End have outlasted many facets of the music industry during their lengthy existence, but drummer Andy Strachan says not all change is welcome.

The iconic three piece will play in Launceston next March as part of A Day On the Green, a festival that will also include Spiderbait, Veruca Salt, the Lemonheads, Tumbleweed and The Fauves.
It is not the first time the band has been featured in the line up, and Strachan said it was unfortunate that it now almost stands alone in the Australian festival scene.
“Every part of it is always really well thought through,” he said.
“It’s one of the only quality travelling festivals left in Australia, where they don’t skimp out on any part of the event.
“It reminds me a lot of Big Day Out, and I was pretty disappointed when that came to an end.
“For me they have picked up from where Big Day Out left off and, from band perspective, it’s awesome.”
The group has no shortage of festival experience, having honed its act at home and abroad throughout the past two decades.
They have just returned from a tour of Europe and will hit the road again in the United States, before coming down to Launceston.
Strachan said his band was always able to feed off the enthusiasm of Tasmanian crowds.
“Every time we have been there, the people seem really appreciative that we have made the trip,” he said.
“I don’t know whether it’s because it is a little bit further for bands to travel and not as many make it there, or because the scene isn’t as big, but the crowds always let loose and don’t take it for granted,” he said.
Of the bands on line-up, The Living End joins Spiderbait and Veruca Salt in having been formed in the early 1990s, while The Fauves and American alternative rockers The Lemonheads first originated in the late 1980s.
Strachan said it was a line-up filled with friends and favourites.
“Obviously, we have spent a fair bit of time with Spiderbait over the years, and they are always fun be around,” he said.
“I’ve been listening to The Fauves quite a bit lately, and it’s great to see Tumbleweed in there too.
“It’s going to be pretty epic.”
A Day on The Green will be held at Josef Chromey Wines on March 10, 2018.
Gates will open at 1.30pm, with the event set to finish at 9.30pm.
