Gordon Pickery, 83, and Hazel Pickery, 79, had not been seen since leaving the Woolworths supermarket at New Norfolk on Tuesday morning.
That was until the police found them at 8:45am on Wednesday.
It was reported to be -1 degrees Celsius at New Norfolk overnight.
The Pickerys both have dementia and other medical conditions.
They were located on Glenora Road, roughly 1 kilometre west of the New Norfolk township.
Tasmania Police said the couple was sitting alongside the Derwent River.

A Tasmania Police spokesperson said the Pickerys were checked by Ambulance Tasmania and subsequently taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital as a precaution.
There, they were reunited with family.
“The couple were tired but otherwise OK,” the spokesperson said.
“Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance and information in locating the couple.”
Inspector George Cretu also extended thanks to the members of emergency services who responded to the incident.
