Miller, 23, arrived home on Monday from the Down Syndrome Swimming Australia championships with six gold and two silver medals.

Miller is coached by Ketrina Clarke at South Esk Swimming Club.

The national titles were a selection event for the Down Syndrome International Swimming Organisation World Championships to be held in Canada in July 2018, according to club president Jayne Shepherd. 

“Based on the six gold and two silver medals, Aran has a very good chance of selection to represent Australia at his fourth successive world championships,” she said.

“This is an amazing achievement from an outstanding athlete.”

Miller’s gold medals were from the 50-metre backstroke, 200m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 200m fly; with silver medals in the 400m free and 200m individual medley.

Miller has carried on his fine form from the state short course championships in Hobart earlier in the month, where he set two national Down Syndrome Swimming Australia records.

More than 6000 participants are expected in Tasmania to compete in more than 40 sports as part of the Australian Masters Games.

Most of the competition is on the North-West Coast, however, Launceston Aquatic Centre plays host to the swimming events on October 21 and 22.

The sessions are scheduled to run from 9am to 4pm with warm up starting at 8.30am daily.

There are individual and relay events. The relays are based on the total age of the competitors in the following age groupings: 72-119, 120-159, 160-199, 200-239, 240-279 280-319, 320-359.

Following a JX clinic at the Hobart Aquatic Centre on Saturday, September 23, Swimming Tasmania is seeking feedback on the format for future events.
