Jack Riewoldt and Toby Nankervis will be in the Richmond corner and Hugh Greenwood will be in Adelaide colours for the AFL’s big dance.
For Riewoldt, a flag would be the culmination of his maturity as a player and just reward for a club stalwart who has witnessed the tough times, including the three consecutive elimination final losses from 2013-15.
The Clarence product has again led from the front in 2017, kicking 52.34 from his 22 games, and is averaging 6.91 score involvements a game to go with his 13.2 possessions and six marks a game.
His output on Saturday against the Giants was limited by Phil Davis and Adam Tomlinson, with just eight touches, two marks, two tackles, 1.0, one goal assist and four score involvements.
He will likely have Daniel Talia as an opponent on Saturday, who kept him to 2.0 from 13 touches and four marks in round 6 as the Crows won by 76 points.
Nankervis crossed over from powerhouse Sydney to the Tigers in the off-season with the simple desire to play more senior footy and has become one of the recruits of the year.
The 23-year-old from George Town is 12th in the league for hit-outs [565 at an average of 24.6 a match] and is averaging 14.6 touches, three marks and 4.1 tackles and has kicked 11.7 in 23 games.
His battle with Sam Jacobs [number one in the league for hit-outs with 947 at 39.5] with be pivotal.
When the two faced off in round 6, Jacobs dominated that statistic with 50 hit-outs to Nankervis’ 38, with Crow winning 26 possessions and taking eight marks and the Tasmanian collecting 14 and laying seven tackles.
Nankervis tuned up with a competitive showing against Rory Lobb, winning 27 hit-outs [seven to advantage] to 31 [15 to advantage] and collected 13 touches, five marks, five tackles and three score involvements.
Former basketballer Greenwood has averaged 16.1 touches [10 of those contested], 2.6 marks and 6.89 tackles a game [10th in the league] in the middle and across half-forward in his rookie AFL season.
His 17 contested touches in the qualifying final win over the Giants underlines his value. He was much quieter against Geelong on Friday, with six touches [three contested], two marks, two tackles and one score involvement.
Saturday will be the 14 game player’s first outing against Richmond.
Meanwhile, the season ended at the preliminary final stage for Launceston’s Jake Kolodjashnij for the second season in a row as the Cats fell to Adelaide.
He finished with 16 touches [10 uncontested], six marks, three tackles, 0.1 and one score involvement.
Kolodjashnij, who moved from the defence to the wing during the year, averaged 14.6 touches, 4.4 marks and 2.4 tackles a game in 2017.
