Race co-organiser Louise Padgett confirmed that a post-event survey from 170 respondents has been the driver behind attempts to improve the multi-sport race.
“We pretty much had a checklist of what we needed to do to rejuvenate the event – that just made our job a lot easier,” Padgett said.
Both mountain bike legs of the race have been lengthened, with more single track riding provided.
The road ride is now a 40km time trial each day to “better your time”.
The second day run that heads down a different direction is now a 9½km out-and-back circuit along the foreshore of Muirs Beach, all the way to Swanwick.
The first day run is the only part of the iconic race that has been left unchanged.
Padgett felt the changes have accurately reflected the feedback.
“They were asking for more single track in the mountain bikes, a different run on the Sunday and the road course – there’s only one road course – they wanted to make it shorter on the first day, though some said to make it longer on the second day, so we met them in the middle,” she said.
Padgett said that Parks Tasmania decision to rejuvenate the course since last year will be a big bonus for competitors.
“So it’s going to be a much faster and smoother, more enjoyable run because the track has been entirely redone,” she said.
“It’s the equivalent of a new course, basically.”
