Renewable energy
IT’S AMAZING that the Coalition continue to refuse to accept that renewable energy is the way to deal with the problem of pollution caused by coal fired power plants.

The rest of the world must look at Australia and wonder why a country with so much sunshine and a coastline able to produce so much energy continues to deny the need for change.
Germany, a Northern Hemisphere country produces 40 per cent of its energy from solar, Australia a joke at 4 per cent. Scotland produces nearly all its power requirements from wind turbines.
Sweden is close to 100 per cent renewable energy and Uruguay at 95 per cent, even the USA is in the top 10 producers of renewable energy.
Meanwhile the Coalition want to extend damage to the environment in NSW by another decade. Time to remove the blinkers before it’s too late.
A. Carter, Mowbray.
Reliability
IT IS essential for our economy that the public, industry, commerce plus our infrastructures have access to reliable electricity.
At the same time we must minimise its production commensurate with it being affordable.
Now consider these three words - reliable, clean and target.
Surely incorporating them in a 'reliable, clean energy target' ensures all three essentials with the bonus that 'target' allows the market to select the technologies for its achievement. Voilà.

Estate administration
IN MARCH this year, my dear mother passed away.
She lived in an aged care nursing home. She had no assets and not a lot of money.
I thought the settlement of her estate would be simple and straightforward.
Many years ago, my mother arranged with a trustee firm to administer her estate. This was finalised eventually, five months after her death.
I received a statement of fees for $5500 commission, incidental expenses, probate, four different taxes, totalling $7142.60. What a shock.
I was not aware family members can be trustees of a will. Your own solicitor is able to administer an estate .

Before Tony Abbott
BEFORE Tony Abbott there was bipartisan political support for the evidence of human influenced climate change. Lest we forget.
The conservatives would have us believe that Labor and its support of renewables and its socialist agenda are the ones to blame for our current state of market confusion, poor energy planning and rising prices. Let us reflect.
It is the conservatives who turned their back on the evidence of climate change, who torpedoed a market approach to renewables and who ultimately conspired over the past decade to completely confuse the market and ignore forward planning for future proofing our energy needs.
We were once a progressive country. BTA.

Fox Inquiry
I DEFINITELY agree with MLC Ivan Dean’s outrage that the inquiry into the Fox Taskforce by DPIPWE has been quietly stopped.
The taskforce operated for many years on the pretence that there were foxes in the state, however after spending many millions of dollars, not one live fox was found.
The taxpayers of Tasmania have a right to know where all the money has gone without a result.
Hopefully the ongoing Integrity Commission inquiry will be able to provide an outcome to all the questions about the taskforce that are still unanswered.

Love thy neighbour
WITH all the hate being generated by the no campaign against same sex marriage, it might be a good time to remind people that the Bible tells us that Jesus said "love thy neighbour as thyself" and not "love thy neighbour only if they're white, heterosexuals of European descent".
Richard Hill, Newstead.
Essential services
MOST of today's troubles with our electricity power, water, gas, transport is because our governments sold our essential services to big businesses to pay for bad government to balance their books
Time for our governments give notice to companies the government is taking back essential services back.
Buy them back at the same price they brought them couple years. If they do not accept it is confiscated.
Walter Christy, Shearwater.
Politicising History
MICHAEL Mansell continues to corrupt history (The Examiner, September 16) with a gory description of Batman attacking and killing at least 10 Aborigines asleep in a camp.
The truth is bad enough.
It does appear Batman was responsible for the unlawful killing of two Aborigines held in custody. One assumes they had been captured because they were attacking settlers, something Michael Mansell never discloses.
The year 1829 was not a good time for either settlers or the Aborigines with attacks on both sides, but dwelling on these events and exaggerating them is a tactic designed to generate emotional antagonism from the current Tasmanian Aborigines to sabotage attempts at reconciliation.
This is not only immoral but is a deliberate ploy to destroy peace and mutual respect in our lovely Tasmanian community.
It is high time Michael Mansell's corrupt propaganda was called to account.
John Coulson, Dilston.
Vote count
Didn't Stalin say something like it is not he who votes that counts, it's he who counts the votes who counts?
