After the Bombers comprehensive takedown of Lauderdale in the Tasmanian State League final on Saturday, City of Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said the Northern football dominance was a great boon to the region.
Northern clubs have controlled the TSL leaderboard over several years, a trend that shows no sign of abating.
Alderman van Zetten attended the game to cheer on his own team, and said the North Launceston Bombers “showed great character” through their win, with that character buoyed by the pride of the region behind them.
“While the State League doesn’t bring people from outside the state, it brings people from around the state,” he said.
“And to see the Northern half of the state dominate is always great to see.”
He said on a busy weekend with other events in the city, the crowd numbers were pleasing to see.
