Preparations are already under way for the 2018 Junction Arts Festival, after the announcement of a new pop-up performance venue on Friday.
Junction Arts Festival Inc was granted government funding to construct the multi-purpose venue for the 2018 iteration of the Launceston arts and music festival.
The space will be a demountable venue that can be built and packed-up in very short periods of time.
Festival organisers plan to make the space available to other Launceston non-for-profit organisation and cultural groups
The pop-up performance venue will also double as a visual arts installation throughout the rest of the year.
President and chairperson of the Junctions Arts Festival Board Liz Frankham said she was excited to add the venue to the festival’s growing arsenal.
“The funding will add a new and dynamic venue to the festival's offering,” Ms Frankham said.
“Junction’s recent move to Prince’s Square has been extremely successful with the festival now in its seventh year and going from strength to strength.
“We look forward to working collaboratively with other festivals and events to further grow the cultural landscape of Launceston and Northern Tasmania into the future.”
