Kings Meadows named 2017 Tassie Hawks Football Shield winner

Kings Meadows High School has pulled off a remarkable turnaround to overcome reigning champions St Virgil’s College and claim the Tassie Hawks Football Shield.

After St Virgil’s recorded 19 scoring shots to one in a 53-point win earlier in the day, Kings Meadows came out a different side in the grand final to clinch a 5.2 (32) 4.2 (26) victory and reverse the result from last year’s grand final.

St Virgil’s held a six-point lead with ten minutes remaining before Kings Meadows vice-captain Harvey Griffiths and running machine Isaac Chugg inspired their side to kick two late majors and seal the game.

Both grand finalists defeated Ulverstone earlier in the day.

Game 1: Kings Meadows 5.5.(35) defeated Ulverstone  2.2 (14)

Game 2: St Virgil’s 8.11 (59) defeated Kings Meadows 1.0 (6)

Game 3: St Virgil’s 7.8 (50) defeated Ulverstone 1.1 (7)

Grand Final: Kings Meadows 5.2 (32) defeated St Virgil’s 4.2 (26)
