Man and woman
ON THE subject of same-sex marriage, I am opposed because I believe marriage is an enduring commitment between a man and a woman, with the hope of procreating and raising children. Children are not a product of same-sex relationships. The current survey asks support for same-sex marriage, but does not address the related family issues. Nor does it specify how the religious and other rights of dissenters would be protected. The proposition ignores the entitlement of children to be born within marriage, and to be raised in love by a father and a mother, who are faithful to one another.

Free speech
I GREW I grew up when Christian opinion, the dominant political correctness of the time, was relentlessly imposed on every aspect of Australian life. Free speech and alternate opinion had little chance.
Frankly I have no particularly strong views about same-sex marriage but to suggest it will diminish religious freedom, impose a malicious political correctness and rob us of our parental rights is simply ludicrous. The only time Christians have to worry is when they send in the lions.

Sex education
GUY BARNETT is correct when he says that the legalising of same-sex marriage would result in the discussion of gay and lesbian sexual acts in the classroom. In Canada and United States where same-sex marriage has been legalised, it has become a requirement.

Marriage Equality
REST ASSURED Mary T. Bates (The Examiner, September 16) that I and many like me (heterosexual) will get out and vote as it is an important issue for our country. All that will happen as a result of a change to the Marriage Act is that there will be more weddings, more honeymoons and most likely as a result of that, more employment. If change does not happen now it most certainly will after the next federal election. Do not fear, the sky will not fall.
