HOBART cyclist Madeleine Fasnacht showed great grit and determination in clinching third place in the under-19 women’s time trial at the UCI road world championships in Norway.

Fasnacht, 17, remained focused in wet conditions and finished the 16.1-kilometre course in 24 minutes and 2.04 seconds – 42.32 seconds behind Italian winner Elana Pirrone.
Pirrone’s compatriot Alessia Vigilia was six seconds slower in crossing the Bergen finish line to claim the silver medal.
“I didn’t know what to expect today I just did my best and I’m really happy with getting on the podium," Fasnacht said.
“It’s been a pretty phenomenal year really from one thing to the next.”
The Guilford Young College year 12 student clocked the fifth-fastest at the first time check and third at the halfway point, before powering home.
The reigning national champion’s bronze-medal effort comes months after she won individual time trial gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas.
Fasnacht will represent again represent Australia in the under-19 women’s road race on Friday.
