Min Harman will be project director for the Cradle Mountain Master Plan.
“Min will drive this project forward by undertaking the more detailed economic and environmental work needed to unlock Cradle Mountain’s potential and drive further investment,” Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, Trade and Red Tape Reduction Roger Jaensch said.
“The government sees the development of a long-term master plan for Cradle Mountain as vital to achieving our target to encourage more visitors into regional areas.
“The master plan will complement the new $21.8 million Cradle Mountain Visitor Experience project, which is currently being developed.”
The state-funded experience project will include a new visitor centre, a “village hub” and commercial centre, plus a new viewing platform at Dove Lake.
Ms Harman will oversee a feasibility study funded by $1 million from the federal government looking into transport options including a cable way to Dove Lake and shuttle buses, among other things.
The master plan is also intended to pave the way for private sector developments.

“Cradle Mountain is one of the jewels in the crown of Tasmania’s wilderness and a master plan will ensure that we can continue to enjoy and protect the area,” Mr Jaensch said.
Ms Harman will take the position for nine months, on secondment from the Education Department.
Her background includes stints in the private and public sectors, including a career as a transport and environmental planner and project manager with international consulting designers and engineers Arup.
