IT WAS interesting to read the item on purchasing the NBN infrastructure, but I wonder why the government has to buy it, if it is such a good deal why can't it be bought by Tasmanians as a commercial enterprise?

Civil marriages
WHILE I don't agree with their stance, I understand why some religions refuse to marry same-sex partners.
I don't belong to any of those religions and see no reason why their doctrine has any bearing on civil marriages.
Why should non-believers be coerced by their notions of "correctness"?
People in same-sex relationships provide me with medical help, legal advice, are first responders when I am in an emergency and foster children when their birth parents aren't able to care for them.
Every day, they show leadership and courage that I admire.
I respect what they do for me, and our society. It's only fair that I respect their desire to marry in civil ceremonies.
I'm voting yes.

Conscience vote
RESPECTING both the yes and no case regarding the forthcoming, non-binding, postal plebiscite/survey of same-sex marriage, the question of why $122 million of other people’s money is being expended, to what seems to be a means of appeasement to the right-wing of the Liberal Party to maintain a Prime Minister’s position at whatever it takes.
A simple conscience vote on the floor of parliament would have ameliorated this form of narcissistic self-indulgence, but the negation of the aforementioned action has the potential of young lives being lost, with this unnecessary, protracted form of political expediency.
