If you drove past Windsor Park on Thursday you might have seen a neon yellow sign calling out to passers-by – are you OK?
The park’s scoreboard was converted into a message to the community from the West Tamar Youth Advisory Council, sending reassurance that there are people listening, and taking a stand and being open is important.
The Youth Advisory Committee recently rebranded to YAC, with their very own YAC mascot helping send the message to young people across Riverside and the Tamar region – it’s OK to talk and it’s OK to ask for help.
If we say this is important to talk about then hopefully others will talk too.
Members of the Youth Advisory Council meet every month to provide feedback and information to West Tamar Council in youth-related issues.
The group represents young people by organising youth events and activities and engaging with the community to provide a fresh perspective.
YAC representative Belinda Turmine said R U OK Day was an important message to the community.
“It’s to take care of people around you and … setting an example, if we say this is important to talk about then hopefully others will talk too,” she said.
