Tuohy was named coach of the year at the league’s awards night last weekend after taking her side to a grand final for the second year running.

Despite improving 22 points on the 2016 grand final margin the Hawks still fell nine points short in this year’s decider, but not before ending Arrows’ 64-game winning streak with a gutsy two-point semi-final win.

Tuohy said while neither herself nor her side were motivated by individual honours, she was thrilled to receive the award.   

“It’s a real honour to be recognised, I think because it’s coaches voting for coaches I was very flattered, and seeing that it’s only my second year coaching State League at this level it’s a massive honour,” Tuohy said. 

“I’m always constantly learning and I have a great support network around me in the club, and also my assistant manager Kellie Woolnough who’s previously won the award herself and is like a mentor to me.”

Tuohy said after having come up just short in the past two years her side was more motivated than ever to go one step further next season. 

“From talking to the girls they all seem very hungry, they’ve had time to reflect on the game now and there’s a real belief that they’re keen to take it that one step further and build on the success we’ve had over the last two years.”
