The majority of coaches have tipped Lilydale to bounce back from last year’s grand final loss, however none are expecting a blowout.
Check out our preview and teams wrap.
ANTHONY AXTON – EVANDALE
TIP: East Coast in a tight one
“We’ve played both in the last couple of weeks and it’s probably the best player/ midfielder in the competition in Thane Bardenhagen versus the best midfield so it’s going to be a tight one I reckon.
If East Coast can get five or six off the leash like they did against us then I can’t see them being beaten, but if Lilydale are able to control those guys then they might have the upper hand.”
ALEX RUSSELL – ST PATS
TIP: Lilydale by 14 points.
“If East Coast’s top end don’t perform then they’re in a bit of trouble and I like the consistent players across the field in Lilydale’s team.
I think after last year’s effort they deserve to win this year.”
JAKE TERRY – OLD SCOTCH
TIP: Lilydale by 12 points.
“I think they're probably the fresher side going into the grand final and they’ve had a pretty easy run.
I think they’ve had a lot of time to rest for injuries coming into the grand final and will be well-prepared whereas East Coast has had some pretty tough games, it might work against them, it might play into their hands.
If Lilydale can convert on the scoreboard and bring the tough, hard game of footy they always do, they’re going to be very competitive on the day.”
WAYNE KIRBY – OLs
TIP: Lilydale by 22 points.
“I believe their overall team balance is stronger than East Coast.
East Coast have a very good midfield but I believe the overall depth of Lilydale is greater.”
BRENNAN CRESSWELL – CATS
TIP: Lilydale by 4 points.
“It’s a hard one, I reckon they’re just a little bit better across the board.
If East Coast get their best players to play well they’re really hot at the contest but I think it’s going to be won or lost in the midfield, and I think Lilydale just bat a bit deeper in that area.”
DAMIAN RHIND – PERTH
TIP: Lilydale by 15 points.
“It’ll be a good game.
They’re both fast, running sides on a big ground but I think Lilydale function better as a team unit than East Coast may on the day.”
