Snow is predicted as far down as 200 metres on Monday and 100 metres on Tuesday – combined with a strong south-westerly, it will keep temperatures wintry for the rest of the week.
“[Snow] going to hang around for a few days … around the North it’s going to be a little bit higher, around 300 metres, so it’s still pretty low and quite cold,” Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Tristan Oakley said.
“We will have quite strong south and south-westerly winds … the wind speed combined with the temperature will make it cold.”
Mr Oakley said people should be aware of a number of weather warnings issued for the upcoming days, including a Bushwalkers Alert for the Western and Central Plateau for lowering weather.
The Bureau has also issued a marine wind warning, sheep graziers warning, and road weather warning.
The icy weather will continue as far as Friday when more snow is predicted – perfect for the winter sports addicts.
