The City of Launceston is a proud supporter of Children's Week, the annual nationwide celebration of children in our community.
National Children's Week 2017 will be celebrated from October 21 to 29 and nominations for the City of Launceston and Playgroup Tasmania's Children's Week Awards are now open.
Mayor Albert van Zetten is encouraging people to nominate those in the community who make a positive difference in the lives of our young people, not forgetting the quiet achievers and those who work tirelessly behind the scenes.
"We're also seeking nominations for young people who make a difference and who are role models for others," Mayor van Zetten said.
Nominations are being sought in the following categories:
- Brave Child Award for a young person under the age of 12 who has shown great determination and initiative.
- Young Endeavour Award for a young person under the age of 18 who help children by being a positive role model.
- Community Commitment Award for schools and groups involving young people under the age of 18 who have recognised a need in their community and have worked together to create a solution.
- Child Development Award for community groups or organisations that have contributed to significantly improving children's opportunities to learn and grow.

Top kids activities for under 12s
The City of Launceston have launched a new family-focused initiative seeking to identify the top activities on offer in Launceston for children aged 12 and under.
Entitled 52 Things to do in Launceston before you turn 12, the project is seeking suggestions from young people and their families online via the City of Launceston Official Facebook page.
"Launceston has previously been voted one of Australia's most family friendly cities and we want to celebrate this by creating a permanent list of family-friendly activities for locals and visitors alike to enjoy,” Mayor van Zetten said.
The top 50 suggestions will then be compiled onto a poster which will be published on the Council's website and social media channels so others can try out these activities.
