Nearly 400 images were submitted to Tasmania in Focus’ winter competition.
Amateur photographers entered stunning winter-themed pictures of the state’s landscape and its people.
Jennie McNeill’s picture of Eggs and Bacon Bay was declared the winner of the winter reader photo competition.
Judges Phillip Biggs and Scott Gelston carefully selected McNeill’s photo from the nearly 400 entries.
Comments from the judges: McNeil’s photo of a silhouetted figure wearing a beanie against a colorful sky stood out among the entrants. The cool blue and pink hues in the sky, coupled with the dark tones evoke a wonderful feeling of winter, and the downcast gaze of the subject added to the cold overall feel of the image.
Coming in a very close second was Sonya Byrne.
Her picture depicts low clouds passing through the cliff face of Mount Roland on a rainy day.
Byrne snapped the image from the Gowrie Park Wilderness Village.
Comments from the judges: The monochrome image was a worthy second place-getter. The dark peaks and foreboding clouds add a sense of drama that can only be captured during winter.
The community was called upon to vote for their favourite Top 30 shortlisted images to determine the winner of the winter competition’s people’s choice award.
Nick Chapman’s image of the Seaport proved to be a favourite among voters, claiming the people’s choice award by a slim margin of five votes.
Tasmania in Focus’ spring competition launches on September 1.
