Working in a "boom or bust industry" can come with any number of business risks, but for Kolmark director Mark Kolodziej, there has been growth, development and opportunity.

Having started the business over 16 years ago, Mark has worked to establish Kolmark as a major player in the stainless-steel fabrication industry.

Kolmark started in 2001 with a workshop in Westbury that was focused on Tasmanian Alkaloids as their main client.

"From there we started to expand into the food and beverage industry, growing our client base to include major dairy, wine, food and beverage production companies,” Mark said. 

Mark attributes the success and expansion of the business to the support of Tasmanian industry.

"We have established ourselves as a preferred supplier to various companies in the pharmaceutical, metallurgical, and food and beverage industries,” he said. 

“This demonstrates the commitment of our personnel and the quality of workmanship that Kolmark has to offer.”

Kolmark has recently expanded operations further and have opened a $2 million facility in Westbury.

This expansion is the final stage of bringing the McLaine Stainless brand under the Kolmark roof, having purchased the company in 2010.

"We had always respected McLaine's as we regarded them as the premium stainless fabricator for many years,” Mark said.

Kolmark was able to save 10 jobs with the purchase of McLaine's and expand into the heavier end of the industrial stainless fabrication market.

With his Workforce under one roof and a new state of the art workshop, Mark is looking forward to taking on bigger industrial projects.

"In the past, we have had the skills, but not the capacity to fabricate larger scale items and they have had to be outsourced to the mainland and elsewhere,” he said.

"We now have the facility and the capacity to fabricate any stainless-steel product that can be transported on road in sections or one piece.”

Kolmark currently employ 23 personnel, with opportunities to expand the workforce in the coming year.
