With a fleet of 78 vehicles, CTST is supported by about 350 volunteers chief executive Lyndon Stevenson said.
The transportation is offered to those aged over 65 for medical appointments and social outings, as well as younger people living with a disability.
More than 4600 people were assisted in the past year and Mr Stevenson said the plans were to increase that number.
“What we do is try to use those vehicles as efficiently and effectively as we can to get as many people transported as best we can,” he said.
“Time to time vehicles do get moved around and we encourage the community to make full use of them.”
Mr Stevenson said transport can be a significant barrier in Tasmania and the service existed to support people to live in their own community.
One in six Tasmanians are above the age of 65 and by 2020 that number will be one in five. It is projected that by 2030 one in four Tasmanians will be above the age of 65.
With the population ageing, Mr Stevenson said there was a need to expand the service because the demand was steadily increasing.
“Our staff want to work with more people and we encourage people to not think of themselves as burdening us,” he said.
“We know that a deterrent to good health is transport, so the more that people can get out and about is a strong factor in them being able to remain independent.”
