After trailing hosts Tasmania by 10 points in the race for the Jack Gore Trophy heading into Thursday’s play, Victoria ended the day with a four-point lead, 173-169, with three rounds remaining.
Despite the slight drop, Tasmania’s individuals and teams are still well-placed to take out several sections of the event.
The ladies fours team of Cheryl Culliford, Eileen Dean, Carlene Agar and Shirley Maraldo lead by two points over Queensland 1, while it’s a similar story for the men’s team of Tom O’Rourke, Michael Rankin, Scott Cowburn and Justin Morris over Victoria 2.
Joe Simpson and partner Lynda Charles are unbeaten in the mixed pairs after six rounds, and so is Peter Lockhart, Scott Hodgetts and John de Groot in the men’s triples.
The home team of Betty Kelly, Kathy Davidson, Ted Dowling and Bruce Marshall are tied with Victoria 2 in the mixed fours.
Local hope Ebony White is yet to lose a game in her defence of the girls singles title, but is yet to play South Australia’s Keisha Pearson, who is equal on points.
White’s winning ways have also helped Tasmania move out to a 32-30 lead over Victoria for the Bill Newman Junior Trophy.
Two more rounds will be played on Friday, starting at 8.30am followed by the final round and presentations on Saturday at the Devonport Recreation Centre.
Jack Gore Trophy: Victoria 173, Tasmania 169, New South Wales 129, Queensland 127, South Australia 122.
