The renowned kid’s entertainers had the sold-out Tailrace Function Centre in stitches throughout the launch for their new book – The 91-Storey Treehouse.
The new work is the seventh in the series, and once again features Griffiths and Denton getting up to a number of misadventures in their very own tree-house.
Griffiths spoke with great enthusiasm when describing the new book.
“[In the book], we are babysitting Mr Big Nose’s grandchildren,” he said.
“So it’s three children in the greatest danger they could possibly be in, in the world’s most dangerously unpredictable tree-house.”
The pair have been at the very pinnacle of children’s literature in Australia, and abroad, for over two decades now thanks to works such as The Day My Bum Went Psycho, The Bad Book and the Just series.
After such a long and successful collaboration, the pair believe that it is their similar personalities and sense of affinity with each other that keeps them working together.
“I think what bonds us together is a similar sense of humour, and a desire to keep finding funny stuff,” Denton said.
“We did that with the Just books and then we found another realm to work in, which is the Treehouse, which is a place where endless ideas can be thrown at us.”
“I only collaborate with Terry, because he gives me what I need,” Griffiths said.
“Terry was only in the margin of the Just books, but we found more and more ways to bring him in to the main thing.
“Treehouse is 50-50 illustrations and story. It allows us to make the books more accessible and more silly.
“I think that’s what keeps, in many ways, me going. I just want to keep writing the stupidest, craziest book possible.”
The 91-Storey Treehouse is on sale now at bookshops throughout the country.
