The Van Diemens Quarries-owned site will intensify its output of hard rock and gravel to an upper limit of 100,000 cubic metres an annum.
EPA director Wes Ford made the announcement after its board concluded that upgrades could be done, under certain conditions, without adversely affecting the surrounding environment.
“Various environmental issues were considered in the assessment, particularly dust and noise emissions from the quarry operations and stormwater management,” Mr Ford said.
“Dust production is expected to be limited and separation distances are sufficient to prevent impacts on the nearest residences.
“However, the EPA still requires require the management of dust on the land and traffic areas, and in relation to vehicle loads, so these conditions must be included.”
