The association has provided and trained officials to Northern Tasmanian Cricket Association competitions for eight decades and president Brian Dryden has set an “8 for 80” recruitment goal.
Dryden said umpires were an essential part of the sport at all levels.
“The NTCUSA supports new and existing umpires to access comprehensive accreditation courses, workshops, mentoring and support programs in order to properly prepare and educate officials to perform to their highest potential,” he said.
“We can’t say it enough; ‘good cricket needs good umpires’ and now is a terrific time to join an association that has stood the test of time. What is clear is that with 80 years of service under our belt, the NTCUSA has a great story to tell.
“A story of teamwork, camaraderie, commitment, continuous improvement, support, mentoring, and at the very heart of it all, a deep passion for cricket.”
Umpires adviser Alistair Scott said umpiring was rewarding and a great way for former players to stay involved in the game.
“Whether you wish to contribute to your community by supporting junior or school cricket, or aspire to umpire at the very highest level of international cricket, or somewhere in between, the NTCUSA is the place to start,” he said.
Second-year umpire Andrew Nichols officiates mainly on Fridays and still plays on Sundays with South Launceston.
“My dad umpired for 20 years and I just love cricket,” Nichols said.
Training is held on Tuesdays at the NTCA Ground from 6pm.
