In celebration of the day, we have collated some fantastic photos captured by The Examiner’s photographers and journalists in 2017, along with a selection of our photographer Scott Gelston’s best images from the past six months.
Ian Wadsley and Anna Zhans dance up a storm at the 2017 Tasmanian Dance sport Championship. This image was shot with a moderately slow shutter speed (1/10th of a second) whilst panning the camera (tracking the subject) to give some movement to the dancers Picture: Scott Gelston.
A Ford GT Mustang in front of the old mill on Cameron Street. "You don't always need a great camera to take great photos - sometimes your mobile phone is enough to capture what you want to show the viewer" Picture: Scott Gelston.
Hawk Kaiden Brand gives the thumbs during the AFL clash between Hawthorn Hawks and North Melbourne Kangaroos in Launceston - Did you know that on average The Examiner's photographers will take 300 photos a quarter during a game of AFL football? Of this number around 30 will be kept and edited and around 3 will make the final print publication. Picture: Scott Gelston.
Navy personnel march down Charles Street for the 10.30am Anzac day march in Launceston. Often press photographers are in front of the crowd capturing the event's main personalities, but sometimes the crowd is just as important as the participants. Picture: Scott Gelston.
PM Malcolm Turnbull at Neville Smith Forest Products in Mowbray as the federal and state governments re signed the Regional Forest Agreement. "When shooting big media events such as Prime Ministerial visits, there can be upwards of 20 photographers trying to capture stills and vision. To get this shot, I'm actually about one meter from the PM with an extremely wide lens. " Picture: Scott Gelston.
Worlds Greatest shave: Linda Munting gets a trim at Launceston College. Less is more - this image works well as you are immediately drawn to Linda's freshly shaved head. Picture: Scott Gelston.
