The development application will be voted on by aldermen at Monday’s council meeting.
Main concerns from residents in the area included increased noise levels, dust, air pollution, light pollution, road use and loss of residential property value.
Wendy Runciman and Rhys Davies, who live about 200 metres from the site, wrote to the council about the development.
“Currently we hear and are both annoyed and disturbed during the night by both noise from the TOLL site and rail depot and our 3-year-old even wakes up to the sound of the forklifts and train whistle during the night,” their letter to the council said.
“We are concerned about the accuracy of predicted/modeled noise levels included in the development application as the measurements used to base their modeling on were taken over the period which included Christmas and Boxing Day public holidays when the site was clearly not operating at its usual level.”
The Toll Group’s proposal is aimed at increasing efficiencies in operations and improving safety.
One of the key aims of the project is to relocate existing bottle and packaging operations from Bell Bay to Launceston and make more efficient use of rail transport.
The extension will include demolition of buildings, construction of new offices and warehouses, subdivision of the site into three lots, and realignment of the existing rail connection into the site.
A new railway connection into the site from the adjacent State Rail Network will also be constructed and will comprise of two lines which run along the north-eastern boundary of the site.
