Born Wednesday night, the foal is the first to be born at Armidale Stud in Carrick this year.
Director Robyn Whishaw said this is the first of many.
“It’s a filly, and it’s the first foal for the season. We’re expecting to foal around another 80 within the next three months. September and October will be our busiest,” she said.
Ms Whishaw said that the foals at Armidale Stud have good temperaments because they are handled from such a young age.
“It looks to have a good temperament at this stage, because we handle them right from when they’re born,” Ms Whishaw said, “It seems very sensible”
The parents of the newborn foal are mare Scout Finch and stud Unusual Suspect who hails from the USA and stands on the mainland.
Though Armidale Stud’s first foal will stay by her mum’s side for now, in the future she will be on the path to becoming a racehorse, and then hopefully, a champion.
