The Tasmanian College of the Arts will be home to an art exhibition featuring pupils from a raft of different primary schools throughout Launceston.

Entangled: Art and the Tasmanian Primary School, sees the grade one and two pupils explore topics and themes that hold personal importance, according to exhibition curator Dr Abbey McDonald.
“They pick a topic of inquiry that is important to them, and they use art as a vehicle for exploring that topic,” Dr McDonald said.
“Ravenswood Primary School looked at Eucalyptus tree texture, and how they could demonstrate what texture looks like using print making and painting.”
The project is a collaborative effort between the University of Tasmania, the Tasmanian Art Teachers Association and Art Education Australia, and aims to provide information on how to best structure future school art curriculums.
Dr McDonald said there were many benefits to more expansive, and inclusive art programs in schools.
“There’s mountains of evidence around the importance of arts for the whole education experience,” she said.
“Research shows us [numeracy and literacy] is greatly improved through experiential art activities in classrooms.” The exhibition opens at Academy Gallery on August 24 at 5.30pm.
