UK embroiderer Jenny Adin-Christie has visited the state for the first time at the invitation of The Embroiders Guild of Tasmania. Starting on Monday, 19 ladies from Tasmania and interstate were taken through some of the intricacies of 17th century embroidery, as they each made a wren from their materials. The four-day workshop is Ms Adin-Christie’s third stop in a national tour that has already taken her to Queensland and Western Australia. She said she liked to give her students a well-rounded experience.
“I don’t really have a favourite type of embroidery, because I think the best bit is bringing together different parts,” she said.
“It initially took me about six months of research and a week of needlework to complete the wren that I am teaching in Launceston.”
Ms Adin-Christie continues her tour in Hobart.
