Resident Guy Hudson said school buses often had to double park while students got off the bus.
West Tamar Council’s general manager Rolph Vos said Mr Hudson’s concerns were mutual.
“We do need to formalise something. The big concern is one of safety, and it’s shared,” he said.
Mr Vos said the bus stop being non-designated wasn’t the only issue.
“The problem arises with the school bus pick ups, because the parents park pretty much on both sides of the street to pick up their children from the school bus, naturally,” he said.
“But they also tend to park where the bus stops.”
Mr Vos said a resident had approached the council “some time ago” to get the Charles Street bus stop formalised.
“We proposed to put it in a particular location, one where the bus stops now a number of times a day, and a neighbour, who lives adjacent to it, did not support that,” he said.
“Because there was some resistance and because it wasn’t something that we weren’t being heavily lobbied for, we backed off rather than upsetting people.”
The West Tamar Council then put in a bus stop in a different location, but acknowledges it wasn’t in the correct spot.
“There was a stop on the main road which no one used and we have since removed it because it was in the wrong place,” he said.
The council will write to the concerned resident about the bus stop to alert them of the bus stop being formalised.
The move has come after Mr Hudson contacted The Examiner in regards to the issue.
“Basically that will happen from now. This is a direct response to the gentleman … he has also contacted us … But it’s something that has been ongoing for sometime,” Mr Vos said.
To formalise the bus stop, Mr Vos said the council had to “simply” designate it a bus stop, by writing on the road and putting a sign up.
“We believe there is good reason to put in a formal bus stop before something serious happens,” he said.
