Guest speaker for the event will be Harley Stanton, brother-in-law of Launceston-born Ron Betts – the only Tasmanian helicopter pilot to die in the Vietnam War.
Mr Betts was killed in action in at Long Binh after his aircraft was hit 47 times by enemy fire.
The RAAF veteran’s helmet and other personal artifacts are on display at the Scotsdale RSL Military Museum.
August 18 was chosen as the annual day of commemoration for Vietnam servicemen and women to coincide with the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan on August 18, 1966.
The commemoration service is open to anyone who would like to attend.
