Celebrating her achievement, Mrs Young said having a job she loved made coming to work enjoyable.
“It’s a great council to work for. They’re all very social and the mayor and everyone is very supportive of us. I don’t ever not look forward to coming to work,” she said.
Mrs Young had her heart set on being a nurse, but at the mere age of 15, and with the full support of her parents, took a job as a typist clerk at the Deloraine Council.
“I started there in 1977, I did payroll. We amalgamated with Westbury and then I moved to records. In 2010 I became general manager’s PA,” she said. “Never did I think I’d stay this long.”
