Market manager Kim Hewitt said it was outstanding to be acknowledged and the committee was humbled by the award.
“They said that we won because it’s a market that celebrates the local, with visitors connected directly to farmers and their fresh seasonal produce,” she said.
“It’s a market that doesn’t happen on its own, it happens because we have an amazing group of stall holders and committee.”
About 200 people attended the awards held in Melbourne.
“It really was a who’s who of Australian food world,” Ms Hewitt said.
“There were all these amazing producers and, even better, there was all this incredible food.
“It’s always good that the recognition of people who put the food on the table (and) who brings the food to the restaurant is acknowledged and rewarded.”
Albany Farmers Market, SAGE Farmers Market Moruya and Willunga Farmers Market were nominated in the same category.
